Surgical Wound Protector Manufacturing Project

Challenge:
A group of visionary doctors envisioned establishing a domestic manufacturing setup for surgical wound protectors, a product previously unavailable from any Indian manufacturer. Existing systems abroad were expensive, large-scale, and unsuited for startups. The need was for a cost-effective, compact, and high-quality production system capable of meeting stringent medical standards — fully designed and built within India.

Innovation:
Under the guidance of Chief Consultant Mr. Sanjay Zacharias, the team conceptualized and engineered a complete, scalable manufacturing solution. The system combined custom process design, specialized tooling, and selective automation to achieve precision, sterility, and repeatability — while keeping operational costs accessible for small and medium-scale manufacturers.

Outcome:
The result was a landmark achievement — the first successful surgical wound protector manufacturing setup in India. This breakthrough reduced reliance on imported systems, empowered local entrepreneurs, and advanced India’s self-reliance in medical device manufacturing. The innovation earned recognition with an Innovation Award, highlighting its contribution to both engineering excellence and national healthcare capability.
