Context:
A group of innovative surgeons envisioned a custom-shaped vascular silicone tie designed to improve convenience and precision in abdominal surgeries. Such ties are critical tools used for safe identification, retraction, and occlusion of vessels and tissues during surgical procedures. However, their unique design requirements made conventional production setups unsuitable, and no localized manufacturing solution existed for this product concept.
Innovation:
Under the leadership of Mr. Sanjay Zacharias, a compact and specialized silicone injection moulding system was designed and developed to manufacture the custom vascular ties. The system was tailored for precision forming, cleanroom compatibility, and small-batch flexibility, enabling rapid development and consistent product quality suitable for medical applications.
Outcome:
The successful development of this process allowed indigenous production of a highly specialized medical device that was previously unavailable in the local market. The innovation opened new possibilities for custom medical component manufacturing, empowering healthcare innovators to bring novel product ideas to life with reliability and cost efficiency.
